i just dropped this bait on the old penn board at ol stomping grounds.
but there are larger implications…went to see klatsky coached nyu play emory last night.
the level was good. nyu is more athletic than penn this year. they both were actually. they are both smaller.
it’s a good product. 1200 fans. it was loud. nice venue. now this was #2 vs #5
i think there were 2 other “meets” in the same event center at the same time.
if nil pushes us to d3 then i look forward to new rivalries.
(gallowa humor)
Please stop with this. The Ivy is not going D-3 for so many reasons. Lacrosse alums would revolt. Basketball alumni would revolt. Donations on many levels would plummet. And Klatsky will be at Penn next season. It would have been Langel, but he is getting paid at Colgate. Take a look at Yale’s incoming men’s basketball class next season. The best in years.
A little arrogance, dude. I have followed Ivy hoops since before you were born, rep many Ivy coaches and wrote The Madness Of Ivy Hoops, which came out July 10. I am the only person on the planet who has covered Yale basketball on a per game basis since 2016 (Ivy Hoops Online). Kaminsky and Trupin were close personal friend. Truly. I need no insights from you.
i did read your book. i enjoyed it.congrats on that!
i am the son and nephew of two IL hall of famers.
i am a basketball alum a giver and well in the know and a large donor of time and money to grassroots basketball.
my roommate at yale runs an association of which you cite in yoor defense of the leagues direction. that association has yales most passionate and one of its richest alums.
sometimes you bump into someone who knows more. its always follow the )
I know the entire Yale class. Have seen them all at JLA. Could be the best class since the Makai, Sherrod, ear era or Atkinson-Bruner. Just need to keep them away from the NIL temptation. The center from Choate, Sullivan can shoot it. Needs to bulk up. Let’s get back to the topic at hand. Despite the untimely comments by the Princeton Pres on September 5 and those by my friend, Erin McDermott the Ivy is not going D-3. Tomorrow or 2025. There is a better chance that the scholarship lawsuit in New Haven is successful. And, yes, I know Butch.
my ol roommate runs yale’s most powerful and well funded athletic association which you correctly cited is ground zero in this fight.
bc they have the most passionate and wealthy athletic alum and donor who lives in HK. haha
i love our class. i have seen or coached against all of them in travel ball.
but it is but a nuance and not a harbinger of how we will place in the larger mosaic of future d1 basketball unfortunately.
the past is no of little relevance when evaluating disruption.
i will say i have written incessantly on basketball-u over time that our recruiting getting better was not my prediction but is a data point on contradicting my doom and gloom 18 mos ago.
I’ve appreciated the insights and coverage of both James and Richard (aka Rutgers) over the years - thanks for your efforts. I keep hearing about the incoming group of Yale recruits. Can you provide any details? The sites like 247 and ESPN don’t seem to reflect very accurate reads on who is coming to the Ivies.
they have undercovered the midmajor types in the dot.com era.
guys like bob gibbons and konchalski were legends but that era is gone.
now it’s all about ranking the transfer portal and finding the next lebron.
that’s where the clicks and the revenue is.
perspective: i had a 2 hr convo with one of the sites you mentioned to discuss yale and ivy recruiting this year. they asked me questions.
its not talent. they are well equipped. it’s where the money is. it’s always follow the $
only reason they call me is bc my kids were highly recruited and they know i am am ivy alum and they are good guys
i only comment on kids i see live with my own eyes. but i see a lot in the summer
and we have one recruit in atl this year who i coach against
i use words like “joke” and “clown” too much for this site due to passion and hyperbole. i deal with sec msg boards to discuss my kids . haha. its rough
but espn is a joke. i dont even know who does recruiting coverage there anymore.
247 is not. good guys. as are the on3 guys.
but like i said it’s all about financial incentives.
last time i checked the newhavenregister was live chatting uconn bball games but using wire service to cover yale-princeton
