yales class:
they have position 1-5. this is impt as retention is an open question for this class and team in this era.
they have a kid who might win mr bball in mn nolan groves who is a swiss army knife big guard
when i watched he was good but didnt have that one rare skill or gift that pops
but by all accounts he’s breaking records up there which is just hard to do
they have an explosive guard prob pg wallace jr but also combo in pitt who in my viewing cld go much higher
he has star potential in the IL. just elite athleticism and moxie.
they debate his jumper and size
loving , cali
solid big guard. can shoot the 3. was off when i watched but like the form
good role player
i see him as a steady contributor as an upperclass
3/4 is ogunyemi from atl
he is combo forward. working on his shooting a la celiscar but has a great body and some pop
he showed out for the atl celtics aau this summer
won our region player of yr def player of yr and will be all state at highest class
ga hoops is insane so this is a big deal
great kid and teammate
5 is kid from ponte vedre beach
he is a a true 6’10 kind of long
not a great athlete but decent
has some shooting touch to 3
i like him at this level
he provides some size some skill and if we keep aletan cld be a curve ball for defense
he went pg to choate.
i saw him bf he had a commitable offer. he has likely improved
like a princeton type big when they have them.
haha
my 2 cents. my kids can dunk on me and think i am a passionate ivy clown.
Great, thanks James. Maybe your lacrosse friend can talk to Joe Tsai about making room at the Barclays Center for Ivy Madness. Yale and Harvard filled MSG for regular season hockey games about a decade ago; I think Ivy b-ball fans could get behind the tournament at a big time, neutral site.
pg wallace just won a state championship and put up 21 with 18 rebs according to my insta feed.
no idea what kind of competition he has in season.
i do know he has a lot of potential based on travel play.
Thanks for keeping us updated on the new class. I’m curious how the recruiting process has evolved now that NIL money seems to tempt top recruits to de-commit. Active recruiting must continue until players enroll and then it starts over again as the transfer portal opens up. It sounds pretty exhausting.
Admin, Yours is a thankless task, no doubt, and you may think Rutgers gives your chatroom a credibility it may not otherwise so quickly establish for itself; but I, for one, don’t tune in here to incorporate the Lord Kent’s resumé into my database. He’s an insecure little man - so much so that he needs to bombard us with his unsolicited biography; incredibly full of himself; smug to the nth plus one degree; and this isn’t the first time or place he’s demonstrated these offensive characteristics. james may have lost it a bit, too, but we as white men of some level of prominence in this society need to understand the odious damage we do with toxic red flags we habitually shoot into the sky, whenever we’re behaving in a manner that more than suggests we’re better than others - that’s exactly what this Rutgers individual has done and continues to do; he’s provocative and he provoked a reaction out of james that he clearly wanted.
I also did not sign up to hear about Mr. Kent’s experience in NIL or Ivy League sports nor did I sign up to hear about james’s strong connections in Ivy hoops. However, it seems that both users were eager to share their relevant information and credibility in the field of alumni relations, NIL, and basketball, and I appreciated the detailed responses that they have provided on this forum.
However, I also did not sign up to read about your opinion of Mr. Kent either and I don’t see how your disgruntled portrayal of him provides as much value as either of the aforementioned users to this thread. Completely beyond the scope of the forum to discuss the character of a particular user instead of doing what we all love, chatting about the Ivy League.
On a side note, Courtney Wallace is an talented ball handler that Coach Jones assuredly will utilized well. 21/18/5 is absolutely insane.
Eli, your obvious solution is to simply NOT read my remarks - I’m certainly not asking you to and would go so far as to say I prefer you never again bother to! The moderator has stated an emphasis on communal civility, which I’ve observed this person, james, to be in adherence to; the other individual - not so much. I apologize to you if my words caught you by surprise, and/or offended you; and to avoid a repeat episode of such, PLEASE don’t read my words - ever again! Thank you.
i was a bit vociferous no doubt and let some of my vernacular creep in after a fri hoops game and with some tequila in me😂
i love a good debate but respect the audience.
who knows if the IL goes dIII but i have my concerns and view. i realize that being provocative on a nascent msg board wont change things either way.
and i dont love to pound my chest but will respond when told i dont have a basis for a view and/ or dont have leading edge info . thats inaccurate.
i know i dont make the decisions either way but frankly the best perspective i have is informed by the grassroot observations and logic and some discussion amongst the benefactors.
its complicated but of greg sankey has his way i do think the schism in d 1 hoops follows sooner than later.
James is as knowledgeable as they get on Yale. I have no beef with him. We differ on D-3. I see the olympic sports as the impediment to dropping down. Yale has a great basketball class coming in. I know these kids. So long as JJ is the coach, they will thrive, but other teams will lose players, left and right. The Ivy needs to embrace NIL now that it has opted out of House. It was a miracle that Princeton kept Lee and Pierce. That would not happen in 2-3 years. I could care less about the guy who went after me and will simply put him and his odd gripes on ignore. I love this site and will continue to contribute right through the Yale run to the Sweet Sixteen in Providence!
fwiwi think the mental model rutgers uses in assessing the IL defense mechanisms from a drop down; is the right one.
the question is as he implies; 1) how far will they go (we both agree they must embrace NIL); 2) what happens around them and at the top.
this is where it gets really confusing and debatable.
the success of the SEC thus far is imo a manifestation of the money they have from football and tv. if i am correct only one other conf can compete , the big 10.
so it becomes the power 2 and then everyone else if you just follow the money.
the question if one accepts that then is where you fall outside that loop.
my hypothesis is that it all breaks apart the power 2 grows a bit in football. and to richards point they somehow protect and unite olympic sports. i could go on but when say uga has ~14 d i teams but yale has 34 then that adds another layer
then you have all the other unintended conseqs of pursuing a football first agenda on sports like hoops. you also have the impetus being the big networks and streaming svcs as the monied interests.
lastly have the ncaa tourney being a cash cow in its current form.
its a fascinating if unpredictable intellectual exercise to think through and debate imo.
No, your obvious solution is to simply adhere to the same communal civility that you claim to thoroughly uphold. Read your own words and reflect how that was not the case. When debate and discussion on IL basketball devolves into personal gripes, that’s where we need to take a step back and have some “communal civility”. If you are explicitly encouraging me to avoid and censor your insights, then ok LOL. The apology is unnecessary, post away.
Yes you have a point about my failure. However, I didn’t use course or profane language; nor bully anyone - others who engaged as such, you had no problem with; even going so far as to thank them!?! But that’s on you and I’d really prefer we end it here.
Besides Ivy Hoops Online and this forum, there’s no medium where IL basketball gets discussed, so I’m happy to have debates and lively discussion. All the technical analysis, insider information, and live chatting is amazing, and it’s what I’m here for.
