Vermont (ESPN Events Invitational)

The scintillating battle for 8th place is tomorrow at 5:00pm on ESPN+.

I guess they made progress against Temple, but it was still hard to watch. It’s ridiculous that Davis is out and our best 3pt shooter, who can easily get his shot off and makes 4pt plays every game, isn’t shooting a lot more.

Get it together, Mitch, or moral victories are all this team will have.

EDIT: Corrected time

5:00 start vs Vermont.

Oops. This time I blame the ESPN website, which currently has it wrong. The PDF bracket has the right time.

As an added mark of shame, we’re relegated to ESPN+.

Hopefully we get a W! Tough one tonite. Winnable

This year, it’s all about making Ivy Madness and hoping for a miracle. I just worry we’ll miss out even though we have the talent to sneak in.

Stanton is a star who’s ready to break out (like Xaivian as a soph). Either Mitch or Jack himself doesn’t realize it.

Hicke showed the most promise to me, with his post moves, teardrops, one-footed fadeaway and three point shooting.

Yeah, I’m a big fan of Hicke. He’s a very savvy player. An all-around glue guy like Spencer Weisz.

Even when Dalen comes back, we need Hicke and Stanton to play with swagger. They have the ability and need to act like it. No more hesitation and picking up their dribble. Even the best teams need to make tough shots to win.

Relative to Weisz, HIcke is quicker and more moves, but so far hasn’t shown that ability to find the open man wih a pass.

Tonight, Vermont -5.5.

I don’t understand what you’re getting at with Stanton, gok. The kid took 12 shots last night, 11 from deep. That’s not exactly shy. He played 36 minutes so Mitch is not hiding him. Jack had 18 points, 5 assists, 3 rebounds and NO turnovers. No, he didn’t shoot every single time he had the ball but the guy was productive as hell.

Tigers looking tired and a little disinterested so far.

I just want him to shoot a lot more, especially with Davis out. This team struggles mightily to score and we need Stanton to be a high volume shooter, especially since he’s such a good tough shot maker and gets red hot.

Oh boy. This is going to be ugly. I’ll just leave it on in the background.

Mitch already used two timeouts :joy:

Missing everything short and they are a step slow on defense. Too much time at the Magic Kingdom.

Happy is oh-for-8 from the line for the season. How is that possible?

Zero compete.

They had a winnable game yesterday but lost their nerve for 10 minutes and lost. Today, they just look exhausted.

It is what it is. This team is so raw and our one sure thing, Dalen Davis, is out with injury. Just gotta use these games as extended practice.

I like Hicke shooting a lot while he’s hot. That’s what we should have done yesterday with Stanton. Shoutout to Perry Clark for hammering that home on the broadcast today and last night. It’s not selfish. It’s necessary with a team that struggles to score.

Was the schedule made before or after we knew about Lee and Pierce? Probably some of both? It doesn’t seem like the best schedule for a freshman laden team?

Most of the schedule are likely return games from last year. Akron. Iona. Northeastern. St. Joes. Loyola Chicago. Merrimack. Monmouth.

I bet the ESPN Events organizers thought they were getting the Lee and Pierce Tigers. This MTE is full of quality midmajors and that team would have fit right in. This one… oof.

Another 30% from the field and 50% from the FT line half… that was first half at Akron, Iona, and now Vermont.

Nice response! Cut it to 10. Just nice to see them fight back a little.
