Way too early predictions for upcoming Ivy season

Tough for Columbia to be over rated when they were picked to finish last.

road wins are much more important in the league.

My reference to overrated meant based on the posters here after Columbia’s out-of-conference record, which was earned against a very weak opposition slate and its victory over a Cornell team that handed the game to Columbia with almost Division-3 quality ball handling in the second half of that game. True that road wins are more important, but Princeton’s easy win over the consensus runaway winner Yale was extremely impressive.

Final score was deceiving. Nothing came easy in that game.

Agreed. “Easy” was a poor choice of words. “Solid”. Yale’s last lead was with over 19 minutes to go, and it was close until the final minutes.

Solid. Hard fought.

Well, I did pick Dartmouth for 2nd and Cornell for 7th in the preseason poll. So I guess I’m looking smart after 2 games.

Long way to go, obviously, and I really think anything can happen 2 through 8.

Yale isn’t guaranteed that #1 slot. And hopefully Jones is impressing on his players that their roles in the rotation aren’t guaranteed either.

You have size and shooting. Mbeng is the difference.

not hard to beat a team at home packing the paint when they cant shoot esp when that is that particularly team’s MO so far–high shooting efficiency. yale is highly overrated if shooting mean reverts down as has been relentlessly chronicled on our board

we shall see? i also am not sure why you would bench guys purely because they cant throw it in the ocean for a game or two. defensive improvement would have been noteworthy for yale at any point this year so far but it has been elusive, unfortunately. not sure you can just find that on the bench this time of year

Mullin, Fox, and Braithwaite all seem like excellent shooters. I thought P’s perimeter defense on them was good.

I like the open looks. I hated the outcomes

Mullin an Bratihwaite had a lot of good looks. They were watching Fox pretty closely, as much to stop his drives into the paint as his treys.

Physical play makes good shooters miss open shots. You wear guys down (on offense and defense) and their shooting form falters, even when open. Saturday was the first time a Mitch Henderson team exceeded the physicality of a James Jones team.

But hey, it’s just one game. Jones will adjust and run some better offense next time. Simply dumping it down low to Townsend/Aletan and kicking out when we double-team isn’t enough.

There’s something to that. But a lot of those missed treys for Yale were from guys without too many minutes on the floor, so I doubt they were beaten up or fatigued.

Same could be said for our guys, though. They missed a ton of open looks until Davis and Hicke caught fire late. Yale always plays physical and our best scorers miss open shots they usually make.

Princeton deserved to win but the game came down to the 3 pter.

Princeton shot 11-27 (41%) from 3. On the season, they’re shooting 33%

Yale shot 5-29 (17%). On the season they’re shooting 40%.

Credit to Princeton to forcing the game to come down to a 3 pt shootout but they were running a strategy that is often administered when you know you’re outmanned elsewhere. They packed the paint and forced Yale to make open 3s which they did not.

Rebounding was also a big factor. I expected Yale to dominate the boards

at both ends, and they did not.

For sure. We’ve mentioned it on the Yale section a bit but this Yale team isn’t as foreboding on the glass and defensively in general. Yale-Princeton went about even on the glass in terms of % in this last weeks game.

I think the excitement around Princetons win is deserved especially considering how young the team is and the rough stretch they went through before Penn.

Not sure how reflective our team stats are when Davis missed 9 games and the players are so young. I think our 3pt% will continue to rise.

We’ll see what happens this weekend. Even with the Davis injury as a valid excuse, this team has ZERO wins away from home. Eek.

Need to put on this look:
