Cal up by 15 over Kansas St entering the 4th quarter.
Cal is dominating this game… K-State will have to heat up to make this a game.

Book that flight to San Francisco.
A battle of nerds! Columbia at Berkeley is going to be fun. I like this match-up more than Kansas St.
Why do you like the match-up? What’s your scouting report? ( I’ve never seen the bears)
Any ideas about limiting their 6’6” center? I saw parts of the Cal-KSS game, and she dominated.
They are a very set-defense team, they don’t pressure much and can be exploited with a fast pace. Mainly play 5 players so attacking the paint to get fouls and keeping a high pace are going to be key. I expect a 2v1 with Page and Rafiu inside to be very effective against a low mobility post. Containing her is going to be key defensively.
This is going to be a tough matchup. Even if they contain Walker who is 6’-5”, Cal has a solid backcourt. I imagine they’ll be an 8-10 pt favorite with the home court advantage.
If they pull it off, next opponent may well be Harvard, who won today by 29 despite Karlee White’s 0-8 shooting - they play Wisconsin next, the only team in the tournament with a below-.500 record
I am desperate to see Crimson and Lions in the next game. I believe it will happen and I don’t see the Lions going down! They are playing with a huge chip on their shoulder…
Plan A will be to get Walker into foul trouble. early in the game. Tough opponent, but the Lions will win.
I am confident this is going to be the semifinals game next monday
Since we’re getting ahead of ourselves, would the team fly back home after beating Cal late Thursday nite and they travel to Wichita on Saturday or would they fly directly from SF to Wichita for the Monday night semifinal? I only raise the issue because it’s a lot of traveling.
We were fortunate to have more home games in our NIT run a few years ago.
I’ve been wondering what a shit show is the bracket for more than a day. How are we supposed to go from NY to North Dakota, to California and then to Kansas in the span of 10 days? I think they just fly to Wichita on Friday and stay there training over the weekend.
Agreed – It makes good sense to stay in Wichita. Incidentally, does anyone know the status of Avilijas and Henderson? Have they been cleared to play on Thursday? No matter what they obviously won’t be in the starting line-up, but having one or both of them available will be helpful.
If Fliss is healthy, why wouldn’t she be in the starting lineup?
If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
Even if she is healthy, given how well the team is playing with the starters they’ve had the past two games, i wouldn’t upset the apple cart.
Fliss can contribute off the bench. We could probably use her physicality against the Cal bigs.
Agree. Also given the fact that she has been training but not playing and still wearing a boot, she probably isn’t able to play a lot. If she can contribute for the Cal game great. But I think having a 6’3" in Feldrappe might be more valuable.
Wayne, I agree with CC89, Kreeker, Pete and others that Mia Broom has clearly won the Columbia Point Guard Sweepstakes in the last two games against St. John’s and North Dakota State and will be our starting point guard from now on. For months, Pete has been calling for her to start at point guard. Bingo!
I can jump in here too. You’re all missing a key point here: Meg has had Fliss run the point all year. She defends, leads us in assists and rebounds and was All Ivy. Meg trusts her. It’s very likely that Fliss moves off the point next year but you’re all too quick to dismiss her skill, success and leadership. You’re also questioning Meg, which is unexpected after all her success. Mia played well in the Ivy tournament game and the ND State game. She was 2-12 against St John’s, a team that didn’t want to even play. These non-NCAA games are unusual because not everyone wants to even be there. St John’s was embarrassing. One other point is that technically Mia is the player we need to shoot better, more so than Fliss. Mia is the perimeter shooter, not Fliss. Mia has played well and will be great next year. But so has Fliss and Meg is unlikely to demote her. Again, anything goes in a non-NCAA tournament game.
I doubt that anyone here is missing a key point or criticizing Coach Griffith, but the focus should be on Columbia’s next game so let’s leave the player comparisons aside and move on.
