WBIT Quarterfinals

“Mia Broom has clearly won the Columbia Point Guard Sweepstakes in the last two games against St. John’s and North Dakota State and will be our starting point guard from now on.”

Another over-the-top statement.

How on earth would Fliss play off ball? What does that look like?

She played off the ball as a first year. Her sister was the lead guard. Team will also play smaller at times next year. She’s our best rebounder and as big as Page.

Side note. The team flew back from ND after the game. They are traveling today to SF. I guess this hints they will do the same between SF and Witchita?

She has the technique, height and body-type of a Small Forward. Small Forwards usually play off the ball. I would expect maybe something like Mia PG, Riley and Hilke open as 3pt threats and Fliss and someone else as interiors. Not crazy to envision.

Fliss is big for a guard, but she’s not the size of a 4, is she?

Sure, but the team that year also had Collins and Hsu who were offensive machines. And even Kitty was a passable shooter (you had to guard her to 3 anyway). I like Fliss a lot but her offense is brutal, I’d rather have Broom off ball than Fliss.

Riley has 599 points this season. I believe Abbey holds the single season record (611), so Riley will likely break that record this week.

I dont think its Mia vs Fliss. Both will likely start next year. Its Maria Avlijas whose playing time and starting position are more likely affected by Mia. I agree that Fliss is a tremendous player for what she brings to the table.

Sorry, but when I said “off the ball”, I meant something other than playing PG. In Fliss’ case, she likely plays some F again as she did 2 years ago.

I thought the days of traditional positions in basketball were a thing of the past.

ESPN’s matchup predictor has Columbia as a 43% underdog.

My guess is Columbia defeat California by seven points 79-72

Here’s another prediction for the game between Wisconsin and Harvard…Wisconsin 75 Harvard 68

Both Avlijas and Fliss are wearing a boot so I doubt they will play today either

Harvard blows an eight point lead with 46 seconds to go in regulation, loses to Wisconsin in OT

They lost? I clicked the feed off, figuring they had that one all sewn up.

Now I’ll have to watch the replay.

They completely collapsed. I would use the C word, but some people may get angry.

I just watched the replay, unreal. I was watching live and Wisconsin was doing everything in its power not to get back into this one, even as late as a minute remaining in this one. The Badgers are not a good team. Bad job of Harvard coaching–they had two timeouts remaining with under a minute to go but did not have any in the final possessions when they really needed it. Also, they had a lot of fouls to give in that final minute but did not make appropriate use of them.

And then in the OT, Wisconsin appeals a call that would have sent Harvard to the line with 3 or 4 seconds left to take the lead….and it was, indeed, reversed into a charge call.

Wisconsin didn’t look like that strong a team. Harvard had them beat and looked like the better team till the last minute. If Columbia can hang on against California, they would have a good shot at getting to the final. It would be ironic if they faced Kansas again (in Kansas).
