WBIT Quarterfinals

Columbia by 12 late in the 3rd. Perri Page looks All-world. Mia Broom is not far behind.

Came dangerously close to blowing it during crunch time (oy, what was that inbounds play off of that time out?), but in the end, Page, Broom and Weiss were too much.

Again, the same trio from the last two games. This was tough and Page got an important mark of it. Cal looked like a bunch of really talented kids with doubtful coaching.

Monday against Wisconsin. I would say we have been lucky. I feel Harvard would have been a worse match-up, partially because of the mental component. I hope we can win and get our revenge against Kansas at Kansas.

I think that Page running their center was the first option drawn but she decided to fake the cut quite late and Mia was already going for it.

Per ESPN,

@BadgerWBB

had an 0.1% chance to win with 46 seconds left in regulation and Harvard up by 7.

Complete collapse by Harvard with under 45 seconds to go in their game against Wisconsin. Thousand to one odds against it happening.

Columbia simply outplayed California in all aspects of the game. Great ESPN+ announcers --Loved their description of Page, Weiss and Broom as the “Three Headed Monster.” Broom has been sensational in the WBIT. One big coming out party for her. Susie Rafiu and Feldrappe didn’t score as much as the Three Headed Monster, but they certainly neutralized California’s 6’6"" center. Susie has improved dramatically during her four years at Columbia. Feldrappe has been fearless in the WBIT making a huge contribution to the Lions" success. Feldrap

Hilke Feldrappe has been a big contributor to the success of the Columbia Lions in the WBIT. The Berlin, Germany native who transferred to Columbia from the University of Mizzouri is an exceptional athlete with huge potential GO HILKE! In the words of the immortal President John F. Kennedy. ICH BIN BERLINER!!!

I think Feldrappe has the potential to replace Susie’s production next year and will be an important player for us. She’s long and skilled. She needs added muscle, improved finishing ability and to be a bit tougher defensively. All of those things are achievable. The extra post season minutes should motivate her to be a much bigger contributor next year.

I didn’t think we’d pull this one out, but what a gritty performance by the entire team, who were playing short-handed without Fliss and Avlijas. Arrebola (and Vas) did not accompany the team on the trip. I don’t think either one made the trip to Fargo either… hope they’re still on the team.

Broom has quickly developed into one of their most valuable players. It was only a matter of time (and getting the opportunity). Mia played more than 30 mins in only two games this season (prior to Ivy Madness). In the 4 games this post-season, she’s averaging 16 pts and 38 mins. She played all 40 last night.

Hilke looked great. Her confidence is rising.

Nasi and Eirny are really good defensively. If Nasi can get her confidence back in her outside shot, look out!

Susie did an admirable job defending Sakima Walker, holding her to 11 pts and 5 reb after she went for 28/16 vs Kansas St. Susie’s contribution didn’t show up in the boxscore, but she was huge last night.

Congrats to Riley on breaking Abbey’s single season scoring record. She was called upon to hit a lot of tough shots all night long.

And how about Perri bleepin’ Page? She took a shot to the forehead early in the 3rd quarter and was back in within a few mins… heart of a lion! Cal likely wins this game if Perri was not able to return to the floor.

Two great write-ups by Columbia9 and PeteD. Regardless what happens in Wichita, this Columbia team has already exceeded all reasonable pre-tournament expectations. Columbia could very well win the WNIT Championship, but even if that does not happen the Lions have played extremely well in all of their Tournament games. More than that, the future looks much brighter than before for Columbia due to the emergence of Broom and Feldnappe as possible superstars. Next season looks quite positive now with not only the All-American Riley Weiss returning ,but a whole flock of others including Henderson, Avijlas, Broom, Feldrappe, Simmons and others. Columbia’s next superstar, Mathjis Dritz, is almost certain to make an immediate impact along with Australain backcourt standout Chloe DIx. Also, I assume the highly-regarded freshman Shea Shippen will be ready to contribute. And, there are several others including defensive standout Nasi Simmons. Presumably Idaho standout Shea Shoippen will be ready to contribute next yearr.
